A portable Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) is…

  • A
A storage device that holds navigation and performance database.
  • B
A tablet device used to store and retrieve documents.
  • C
An electro backup device for paper docs on board.
  • D
A data load device for updating FMS data.

Electronic flight bag (EFB) is an electronic information system, comprised of equipment and applications for flight crew, which allows for the storing, updating, displaying and processing of EFB functions to support flight operations or duties. There are two possibilities for the hardware of EFB systems: portable and installed.

An EFB can perform basic flight planning and performance calculations and display a variety of digital documentation, including navigational charts, operations manuals, and aircraft checklists.

The most advanced EFBs are fully certified as part of the aircraft avionics system and are integrated with aircraft systems such as the FMS.

Note: The EFB does not store the performance and navigation database, that is the FMS. However, it is used to conduct performance calculations.
