(c) When an aircraft is unable to comply with point SERA.8035(a) and the attempts described in point (a) of SERA.14083 to establish communications are not successful, the radio communication failure procedures described below shall be applied:

(6) If an IFR flight encounters visual meteorological conditions and the pilot-in-command decides to continue to fly in visual meteorological conditions, the pilot shall set Mode A Code 7601, land at the nearest suitable aerodrome, and report arrival by the most expeditious means to the appropriate air traffic services unit.

When a radio failure occurs while you are already flying in VMC, you are no longer dependent on ATC instructions to stay safe. You can see other traffic, navigate visually, and select a safe place to land on your own. In this situation, the problem is not “how to continue the IFR flight,” but “how to finish the flight safely without radio communication.”
So the priority is no longer to follow the clearance or the flight plan, it is to end the flight safely and as soon as practicable.

So, if communication failure occurs, the aircraft shall:

• Continue to fly in visual meteorological conditions,
• Land at the nearest suitable aerodrome, and
• Report its arrival by the most expeditious means to ATS.
   

This means that once safe visual conditions exist, the priority is to terminate the flight safely as soon as practicable, rather than continue along the IFR route or follow the filed flight plan.

When a radio failure occurs in VMC, the standard procedure is:
