Refer to figure or CAP696 Figure 2.5
Given a mass of 3 000 lbs, determine the rear and forward limits for the CG positions:

  • A

Rear 87.7 in, forward 82.3 in aft of datum.

  • B

Rear 78.3 in, forward 87.7 in aft of datum.

  • C

Rear 87.7 in, forward 74.0 in aft of datum.

  • D

Rear 74.0 in, forward 87.7 in aft of datum.

Refer to figure.
The CG envelopes are used to include the effect of moment and All-Up-Mass together in one graph. During cruise, the CG position changes as fuel is burnt off, but must remain within defined CG limits, a safe CG range.

To determine the forward and aft limit of the CG envelope for the given mass:

  • Draw a horizontal line from the cruise mass 3 000 lb.
  • From the intersection between the horizontal line and the forward envelope limit move down parallel to line to read the forward CG limit: 74.0 in.
  • From the intersection between the horizontal line and the aft envelope limit move down parallel to line to read the aft CG limit: 87.7 in.
