Refer to figures or Flight Planning Manual MRJT 1 Figure 4.3.5).
For a flight of 2800 ground nautical miles the following apply:

Head wind component: 20 kt
Temperature: ISA +15°C
Brake release mass: 64 700 kg

The a trip fuel, and b trip time respectively are…

  • A

    a 15 800 kg b 6 h 15 min

  • B

    a 17 000 kg b 6 h 45 min

  • C

    a 18 400 kg b 7 h 00 min

  • D

    a 16 200 kg b 6 h 20 min

Refer to figure.
First Step: Starting from 2800 NM at the bottom of the graph, draw a vertical line up until the wind REF LINE. Now, apply the 20 kt headwind correction by drawing a diagonal and slightly curved line upwards and to the right until intersecting the 20 kt reference line. From this intersection, continue up until you intersect the line which represents 64 700 kg.

Second Step: Find out fuel required by continuing horizontally to the right => read the result of approx. "17" (17 000 kg).

Third Step: Find out time required by continuing up from the 64 700 kg line until intersecting the "ALL BRAKE RELEASE WEIGHTS". From this point, continue horizontally to the left until the ISA DEV REF LINE. Now, continue diagonally down to the left to intersect ISA +15ºC. Read the value of approx. 6.75 h = 6 h 45 min.
