Refer to figure.
In the attached figure, B1 and B5 refer to which of the following lengths for a CAT I precision approach?
Refer to figure.
Each light on a precision approach lighting system is spaced 30 m apart - B1.
The first 300 m (from the threshold, sometimes called the inner 300 m) has one "single light source" - ie one light. The second 300 m (middle) has two light sources, and the third 300 m (outer) has three light sources. An alternative is barrettes - lights put close together to look like a line (bar).
Crossbars are required at 300 m and 600 m. Additional crossbars must be provided when using single light sources as opposed to barrettes. These are required at 150 m, 450 m and 750 m.
The total length of the entire construction must be 900 m - B5.
- B1 = 30 m
- B5 = 900 m
