For most radio altimeters, what happens when a system error occurs during approach?

  • A

The DH lamp flashes red and the audio signal sounds.

  • B

    The height indication is removed.

  • C

    An audio warning signal sounds.

  • D

    The DH lamp flashes red.

The radio altimeter can be defined as a self-contained on-board aid used to measure the true height of the aircraft. The RA operates between 4200 MHz and 4400 MHz and the maximum range for the indication is typically from the ground up to 2500 ft.

Should the radio altimeter fail during an approach, the height indication will be removed and replaced by a warning flag. This is to avoid incorrect heights being indicated.
