On an Airbus A320, if both flight directors are on and the autopilot is selected off, what happens to the FMAs?
Refer to figure.
The flight mode annunciator (FMA) is displayed at the top of the primary flight display (PFD).
On an Airbus A320 it is divided into 5 columns to show the status of:
- Autothrust (A/THR) operation
- Autopliot (AP) and Flight Director (FD) vertical modes
- AP/FD lateral modes
- Approach capabilities and DH or MDA
- AP, FD and A/THR engagement status
The first line of column 5 can display the following in white:
- AP1 - Autopilot 1 is engaged
- AP2 - Autopilot 2 is engaged
- AP 1+2 - Autopilots 1 and 2 are engaged
- Blank - No autopilots are engaged.
Turning off the autopilots(s) will only result in the autopilot associated annunciations (AP1/AP2) disappearing, all other annunciations are unaffected
