ICAO Annex 1 - Definitions

Flight time — aeroplanes. The total time from the moment an aeroplane first moves for the purpose of taking off until the moment it finally comes to rest at the end of the flight.

Note: Flight time as here defined is synonymous with the term “block to block” time or “chock to chock” time in general usage which is measured from the time an aeroplane first moves for the purpose of taking off until it finally stops at the end of the flight.

The flight time recorded in the log book is the time from the moment the aircraft starts to taxi ('first moves for the purpose of taking off'), until it comes to a stop on the ground at the parking area. In simple words, it is the period from releasing the brakes to taxi until engaging the brakes to stop at the destination parking position. This time is also referred to as 'block to block' time.
