What effect does a tailwind have on the time to climb to a given altitude?
Rate of climb is independent of wind, only flight path climb angle (and flight path climb gradient relative to the ground) will be affected by a headwind or tailwind. It means you will reach a specific altitude in the same time interval, but your ground distance will be affected.
- Rate of climb (ft/min) = Climb Gradient (%) x TAS (kt)
