Given the following data, calculate the new CG location after landing:
Calculated take-off mass: 746 kg
Calculated CG: 37.1 cm
Fuel burn: 30.5 l on station 45 cm
CHANGE OF CG POSITION
Fuel volume (l) should be converted into fuel mass (lb) by using specific gravity 0.72 kg/l.
- Mass (kg) = Volume (l) x Specific Gravity = 30.5 l x 0.72 kg/l = 21.96 kg
Mass change / New total mass = Change of CG / Distance from mass to old CG
- Mass change: 21.96 kg
- New total mass: 746 kg - 21.96 kg = 724.04 kg
- Change of CG: ?
- Distance from mass to old CG: 45 cm - 37.1 cm = 7.9 cm
21.96 kg / 724.04 kg = Change of CG / 7.9 cm
Change of CG = 21.96 kg / 724.04 kg x 7.9 cm = 0.24 cm
Since the fuel station is further away from the datum than the old CG location, the new position of CG will be shifted closer the datum and will be:
New CG position = Old CG position + Change of CG = 37.1 cm - 0.24 cm = 36.9 cm
