How must a pilot comply with an aerodrome's published Noise Abatement Procedures (NAPs)?

  • A

Compliance is not mandatory, unless the NAP interferes with the safe conduct of the flight.

  • B

Compliance is subordinate to the safe conduct of flight.

  • C

Compliance is required by the Rules of the Air Regulations (and amendments).

  • D

Compliance is required by the Air Navigation Order.

All civil aircraft fly subject to the legislation of:

  • The Air Navigation Order (ANO) and
  • The Rules of the Air Regulations (RoA)

However, Noise Abatement Procedures (NAPs) are not covered by either of these 2 pieces of legislation. Apects of Rule 5, which covers low flying, have some environmental (noise) concerns but otherwise NAPs are designed by each aerodrome.

A pilot should comply with a NAP unless safety dictates otherwise. In an emergency type situation, the pilot should forget noise considerations and simply ensure safe flight.
