Being intercepted by a military aircraft at daytime, what is the meaning of the following signal. Alternating movement of the ailerons, normally left of the intercepted aircraft, followed by a smooth turn to the left?
Refer to figures.
ICAO ANNEX 2 Interception:
The rules are laid down for interception of civil aircraft by military aircraft, to maintain safety and security within the national borders of the intercepting aircraft. The reasons are various but most commonly:
- Civil aircraft is flying without a flight plan or notifying any air traffic control of the flight.
- Crossing borders without prior permission.
- Complete loss of radio communication and aircraft can’t be identified.
The figures attached show that when the military aircraft rocking the wings (alternating movement of ailerons) followed by a left turn, normally left of the intercepted aircraft it means, follow me.
