What is the validity period of a Class 2 medical certificate if you are less than 40 years old at the time of the medical?

  • A

    60 months or your 42nd birthday, whichever is sooner.

  • B

    24 months.

  • C

    12 months.

  • D

    60 months.

According to Regulation (EU) 2019/27:

  • if you are less than 40 years old and you apply for a medical class 2 it will be valid for 60 months or until your 42nd birthday, whichever is sooner.
  • if you are between 40 and 50 years old and you apply for a medical class 2 it will be valid for 24 months or until your 51st birthday, whichever is sooner.
  • if you are above 50 years old and you apply for a medical class 2 it will be valid for 12 months.

(a) Validity

(3) Class 2 medical certificates shall be valid for a period of:

(i) 60 months, until the licence holder reaches the age of 40. A medical certificate issued prior to the licence holder reaching the age of 40 shall cease to be valid after the licence holder reaches the age of 42;

(ii) 24 months, for licence holders aged between 40 and 50. A medical certificate issued prior to the licence holder reaching the age of 50 shall cease to be valid after the licence holder reaches the age of 51;

(iii) 12 months, for licence holders aged above 50.
