As seen in the figure there is a system of abbreviations that indicates what kind of bearing is described.

  • QDM = Magnetic bearing to the station
  • QDR = Magnetic bearing from the station
  • QUJ = True bearing to the station
  • QTE = True bearing from the station

ABBREVIATIONS

QDM → Magnetic heading (zero wind)
QDR → Magnetic bearing
QUJ → Will you indicate the TRUE track to reach you? or The TRUE track to reach me is . . . degrees at . . . hours
QTE → True bearing


Note: In ICAO Doc 8400, heading refers to a direction TO the station and bearing refers to a direction FROM the station.
