A Lower Airspace Radar Service (LARS) is typically provided up to and including Flight Level 100 (FL100).
This service is usually offered within a 30 nautical mile radius of the participating Air Traffic Service Unit (ATSU).
LARS provides two radar services for traffic outside controlled airspace and within the limits of radar/radio cover:
- Traffic Service: the controller will provide traffic information to assist pilots to see and avoid other traffic
- Deconfliction Service: the controller will provide traffic information on conflicting aircraft along with headings or levels to fly at in order to resolve the confliction.
Note: A Basic Service is non radar coverage which includes useful advice and information such as weather information, serviceability changes, conditions at aerodromes, general airspace activity etc.
