THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

The nervous system handles sending, receiving, and processing nerve impulses. Acting as the body's control center and communications network, it integrates vast amounts of information and generates responses by transmitting electrochemical impulses through nerves to muscles and glands. All muscles and organs depend on these nerve impulses for proper function.

It is divided into:

i) Central Nervous System (CNS)
ii) Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)

A reflex is an involuntary and nearly instantaneous response to a stimulus. It occurs when sensory receptors detect a potentially harmful or beneficial stimulus and send signals through sensory nerves to the spinal cord or brainstem. From there, an immediate response is generated through motor nerves, causing muscles to contract or relax to produce the reflex action. Reflexes are part of both the CNS and the PNS.

Reflex: an involuntary and nearly instantaneous response to a stimulus.
Coherence: a state of consistency, logical connection, or harmony between different elements or ideas.
Virulence: the degree or extent of pathogenicity of a microorganism, such as a bacterium or virus.

Reduction: a process of diminishing or simplifying something.
