Virga refers precipitation that falls from a cloud but evaporates or sublimates before reaching the ground. It often appears as streaks or trails beneath clouds, especially in dry conditions where the lower atmosphere has low humidity. They occur most frequently with Cirrocumulus, Altocumulus, Altostratus, Nimbostratus, Stratocumulus, Cumulus and Cumulonimbus.

• "Lenticularis": Lens-shaped clouds formed over mountains, not related to precipitation.
• "Scud": Low, ragged cloud fragments often beneath larger clouds, not evaporating rain.
• "Stratus fractus": Broken or ragged pieces of stratus cloud, often seen in showery conditions.
