Given:
True course: 255°
TAS: 100 kt
Wind: 200°/10 kt
The true heading equals...
Refer to figures.
For this question the wind side of your Flight/Navigation computer is required:
- Set wind direction 200° under the True Index.
- Mark wind velocity 10 kt up from centre point.
- Set True Course 255°T under the True Index.
- Slide wind velocity mark to TAS 100 kt.
- Wind Correction Angle (WCA) reads between centre line and Wind Velocity Mark: 5°Left(-).
- WCA goes from track to heading. Thus, True heading = True course + WCA = 255° - 5° = 250°.
Wind Correction Angle (WCA) is the correction to be made on the heading, because of the wind, so as to follow the desired track. WCA is equal to the drift, but has opposite sign. For example, when dift is 3°Right(+), then WCA is 3°Left(-). WCA goes from track to heading.
