An aircraft is following a true course (TC) of 040° at a constant true airspeed (TAS) of 180 kt. The wind vector is 350°/30 kt. The wind correction angle (WCA) equals...
Refer to figures.
For this question the wind side of your Flight/Navigation computer is required:
- Set wind direction 350° under the True Index.
- Mark wind velocity 30 kt up from centre point.
- Set True Course 040°T under the True Index.
- Slide wind velocity mark to TAS 180 kt.
- Wind Correction Angle (WCA) reads between centre line and Wind Velocity Mark: 7°Left(-).
Wind Correction Angle (WCA) is the correction to be made on the heading, because of the wind, so as to follow the desired track. WCA is equal to the drift, but has opposite sign. For example, when dift is 3°Right(+), then WCA is 3°Left(-). WCA goes from track to heading.
