The Primary flight controls are the control surfaces used to manoeuvre the aircraft about its three axes in flight:
- The elevator controls pitch
- The ailerons control roll
- The rudder controls yaw
Secondary flight controls include other surfaces which interact with the primary controls or are otherwise used to handle the aircraft. These can include
- Flaps
- Slats
- Speedbrakes/spoilers
- Trim
Light aircraft typically only have flaps and trim systems, although some also have speedbrakes.
