What is meant by the phraseology ‘Line up and wait’?
"Line up and wait" is an Air Traffic Control (ATC) instruction for a pilot to taxi onto the departure runway, align with the centreline, and prepare for take-off, but not to take off yet.
It is used at tower-controlled airports to increase efficiency by having the next aircraft ready to go, but it is not authorisation for take-off.
Note: This is not a Take-off Clearance. Pilots must wait for a separate "cleared for take-off" instruction even after lining up.
