When replying to an Air Traffic Control clearance, do you have to read back wind speed and direction?

  • A

    No

  • B

    Yes

  • C

    Only in controlled airspace

  • D

You should always read back safety-related parts of ATC clearances and instructions which are transmitted by voice. These include:

  • ATC route clearances
  • Clearances and instructions to enter, land on, take off from, hold short of, cross and backtrack on any runway
  • Runway-in-use
  • Altimeter settings
  • SSR codes
  • Level instructions
  • Heading and speed instructions
  • Conditional clearances
  • Whether issued by the controller or contained in ATIS broadcasts, transition levels.

A good rule is to read back any detail with numbers - except for wind.
