When replying to an Air Traffic Control clearance, do you have to read back wind speed and direction?
You should always read back safety-related parts of ATC clearances and instructions which are transmitted by voice. These include:
- ATC route clearances
- Clearances and instructions to enter, land on, take off from, hold short of, cross and backtrack on any runway
- Runway-in-use
- Altimeter settings
- SSR codes
- Level instructions
- Heading and speed instructions
- Conditional clearances
- Whether issued by the controller or contained in ATIS broadcasts, transition levels.
A good rule is to read back any detail with numbers - except for wind.
